1. Traffic – Need I say more.
2. Long Lines – A waste of my time. I especially get aggravated when this is due to inefficiences or poor design (e.g. most franchises).
3. Lack of Customer Freedom – Cell phone companies are notorious for this. Every time I want to get the latest-and-greatest phone I need to re-new my 2 year contract if I want to pay less than $400 for it. That’s ridiculous. Companies should stand behind their products and let their customers leave anytime they want. They probably would acquire and keep twice as many customers as they would without it.
4. No ISP mobility – I’m a paying Comcast customer, but the funny thing is I only get Internet service at my house. Why can’t I get it anyway Comcast provides Internet? Anywhere I go I’m still paying for Internet service. It’s just annoying. I know companies like FON are attempting to solve this problem. We’ll see what happens.
5. All Advertising – This includes Google ads, magazines ads, TV commercials, etc. In reality, most people hate ads and don’t watch them. The only time I’m ever interested is when shopping for a product.
6. Paying for anything on the Internet – I don’t know, but I hate paying for stuff on the Internet – especially software. I have plenty of software I love, and still don’t want to pay for any of it. TextMate is a great example. It’s my favoriate RoR editor and I couldn’t program without it, but I’m not going to pull out my wallet to use it. Give me an ad-supported version. Doesn’t matter – I’m not going to look at the ads anyway. ![]()
7. Liars – Be a man, tell the truth. If someone applies for a position and you aren’t going to hire them – tell them. Most people would prefer honesty.
8. Bad parents – This is kind of a personal one. Kids are our future and it’s our job to give them opportunities we never had. Education is key here.
9. Wasted time – Time is all we have. Wasting time watching TV or participating in activities that aren’t helping you are only detrimental. I’m pretty much off of TV these days except for Seinfeld and Entourage.
10. Crappy AJAX/Javascript Frameworks – This is kind of a technical one. I’ve been doing a ton of development these days using all kinds of AJAX frameworks – Microsoft Atlas, Dojo, Scriptaculous, Prototype (RoR), etc. Honestly, they all suck in some form or another. Either there’s a bug in IE or FireFox or Safari. Who knows. Pretty much every framework is a just a bunch of hacks thrown together. Someone needs to fix this – and soon.
